About underwear and transparencies

This may not look important but believe me, it can be… usually in cosplay we have characters with unbelievable impossible dresses and we don’t want to spoil our work with a bad choice of underwear, do we? I won’t use photos of cosplayers because I don’t think it is polite to show other people’s undies.

Esto no puede parecer poco importante, pero creedme cuando os digo que lo es…a menudo en cosplay tenemos personajes con vestidos imposibles y no queremos arruinar nuestro trabajo con una mala eleccion de ropa interior verdad? No voy a usar fotos de cosplayers porque no es cuestion de ir ense;ando la ropa interior de nadie.

To start, there are many types of bra and we will have to choose one according to our needs. One of the first problems we have is the colour, specially if we are wearing clear clothes your choice should never be black NOR white, as these colours are very seethrough. If you are not happy with your cosplay transparencies you can always use a double layer of fabric in that part of the dress.

Para empezar, hay muchos tipos de sujetadores y tendremos que elegir uno acorde a nuestras necesidades. Uno de los primeros problemas que tenemos es el color, especialmente si llevamos ropa clara tu eleccion nunca deberia ser negro NI blanco, porque estos colores se transparentan mucho. Si aun asi no estas contento de como te queda el cosplay siempre puedes poner dos capas de tela en esa parte del traje.

Also you should check that your bra isn’t visible through your armpit, this is usually difficult to do and the best way to achieve it is making sure the cosplay fits perfectly to your body.

Ademas, tambien deberias asegurarte de que tu sujetador no se ve por la sisa, esto normalmente es dificil y la mejor manera de conseguirlo es asegurandote de que el vestido esta perfectamente entallado a tu cuerpo.

The best colour for a bra is a nude colour, but sometimes even this is not enough and you will need something else, this is when you need to wear special bras. They sell some “invisible bras” with no straps at all but I haven’t tried them yet. I usually go for the transparent straps as they are easier and cheaper to find, and also very easy to “erase” with a bit of photoshop, you can check my tutorial on how to do an invisible back bra.
There are also different ways to wear the straps, you can even tie them to your neck depending on the shape of your dress and many times you will avoid them being seen this way. Wearing a bra with no straps is a possibility but usually works best if your chest isn’t too big.

El mejor color para tu sujetador es el de tu piel, pero a veces incluso esto no es suficiente y necesitaras algo mas, aqui es donde entran en juego los sujetadores especiales. Venden “sujetadores invisibles” que no llevan tirantes pero yo aun no los he probado. Normalmente utilizo tirantes transparentes porque son mas faciles de conseguir y mas baratos y bastante faciles de “borrar” con photoshop, podeis ver mi tutorial sobre como hacer un sujetedor con la espalda invisible.
Tambien hay diferentes maneras de ponerse los tirantes del sujetador, dependiendo de la forma del vestido, muchas veces evitaras que sea visto de esta manera. Otra posibilidad es no llevar tirantes pero esto normalmente funciona mejor si tu pecho es peque;o.

If the ideas above don’t work build the bra into your dress, you can sew insert pads to them or use an old bra for your purposes, which is what I did with my Ignis cosplay.

Si las ideas de arriba no te sirven cose el sujetador a tu vestido, puedes ponerle cascos o usar un sujetador viejo para tus propositos, que es lo que hice con el cosplay de Ignis.

For your underpants the same ideas apply, you have many types and you should avoid black or white (some characters show their undies, if they are going to be seen you can consider using the same styles). My best tip on this is to make sure they aren’t too tight nor too lose because it will be noticeable through your cosplay if it is tight.

Para tus braguitas sigue las mismas ideas, hay muchos tipos y deberias evitar los colores blanco y negro (algunos personajes ense;an su ropa interior, si crees que las tuyas se van a ver considera usar el mismo estilo). Mi mejor consejo es asegurarse de que no te quedan muy anchas ni muy estrechas porque se notara si tu cosplay es ajustado.

Although what I usually do most of the time is wearing shorts under my skirts, you never know when you will have to kick someone so it is a good idea to wear them. Believe me, once the skirt of one of my crazy cosplays got caught with the door of the car and imagine what happened…yeah no skirt, lucky me I was wearing shorts XD

Aunque lo que hago normalmente es llevar pantalones cortos debajo de las faldas, nunca se sabe cuando tendras que darle una patada a alguien y es una buena idea llevarlos. Creeme, una vez se me engancho la falda de un cosplay con la puerta del coche y podeis imaginar que paso…correcto, adios falda, por suerte llevaba pantalones cortos debajo XD

The last advice I’ll give you is considering wearing pantyhoses, this makes your skin much smoother and compact (but they may shine on photoshoots), if you live in a cold place will also help to keep you a bit warmer, try to go for a natural colour. If you are showing your tummy ask for a low waist one, they exist! also they don’t always come with that visible short like cut (left) you just need to ask for them (or they will sell you first thing they find).

El ultimo consejo que os dare es que considereis llevar pantys, hace que la piel quede mas suave y compacta (aunque puede que queden brillantes en una sesion fotografica), si vives en un lugar frio tambien ayudara a mantenerte un poco mas caliente, intenta que sean de un color natural. Si vas a ense;ar el ombligo busca uno que tenga la cinturilla baja, existen! Ademas, no tienen porque llevar esa especie de corte tipo pantalon corto (derecha) simplemente tienes que pdirlos (si no la dependienta te dara lo que le de la gana)

There are also other clothes like girdles or even normal underwear which is bodyshaping. You can try whatever you think it is needed to achieve a perfect look.

Hay tambien otro tipo de ropa interior como son las fajas u otra ropa interior que moldea el cuerpo. Podeis intentar lo que sea que considereis necesario para conseguir un look perfecto.
