Asuna Yuuki Undine Cosplay

Sword Art Online is one of my favourite animes. I absolutely loved it and I have been totally hooked to the anime. Asuna is of course my favourite character. She can be a bit naive at times but she is unbelievably strong. Also, the character design is amazing and I love her whole wardrobe. Indeed, I have also made her Asuna Titania cosplay.

I was still very new to cosplay when I made Asuna. The construction was a challange but I managed to pull out a very nice cosplay. Her design hadn’t appeared yet in the new anime so I had to use the book illustrations as my reference. Of course, as it is usually the case, the references weren’t consistant.

I patterned my dress and started making the pieces of my cosplay with foam. As usual I primed and sealed the foam before I painted and highlighted it with acrylic paints. I didn’t give these pieces as many layer as I would have liked as I was short on time.

The garment consisted of a strapless dress and a sleevless jacket. I also has detached sleeves and tights, which I decided to change later on. I added embellishments to my garments sewing bias tape to the edges and trims when needed. The skirt of he dress is a box pleated skirt and the sleeves stay in place with elastics. It all holds together with the belts.

Finally, I managed to make Asuna’s sword for a photoshoot. It is made of foam with a wood dowel to prevent it from bending. I made all the details with rattail cord and Worbla Deco Art and I painted it with acrylics. You can see a similar process in my foam katana tutorial.

Wearing my Asuna

The first time I wore Asuna was for Salon del manga de Barcelona. It was my first time in the biggest manga convention of Spain. I went with my friend Larxenne also as Asuna and we really enjoyed ourselves.

Much later, I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot with the talented Miriam Martinez. It was the first time we met in person and she was absolutely amazing. She has taken some of my best photos ever and I was very lucky to be able to work with her.
