Every saga has a beginning, and it seems Star Wars is getting a new Saga with The Force Awakens. I decided to make Kylo Ren cosplay for the premier of the film. Actually, I bought all the fabric for Kylo but only had time to make a lighter version.
I have always been a fan of Star Wars. The classic films are still some of my favourite to watch. And let’s face it, I have a weak spot for evil characters so Kylo was the one.
Making my Kylo Ren cosplay
As I said I only had time to make the helmet. I put together the rest of the cosplay from my wardrobe. The helmet however was a lot of work. This is how I made Kylo’s helmet
I started drafting the helmet with paper. After several attempts put together with masking tape I started cutting my pieces on 5 mm foam.
Don’t forget to add registration marks to the pieces to glue them pefectly. Once I had glued them and shaped them slightly I reinforced the pieces with black worbla with the help of a heatgun.
I used more worbla to add all the details, I also added little scratches and holes to it.
Finally, when all the pieces were ready, I primed the worbla, painted the helmet with matt black paint and used silver to paint the details. As it was still rather uncomfortable, I lined the inside with some more foam to make it more wearable.
Wearing my Kylo Ren cosplay
I was only able to take a few pictures of my cosplay in the garden. I tried to make my make up resemble that of Kylo in the film but giving it a female twist. One day I may finish the full cosplay.
