Lady Sif Cosplay

I think Lady Sif is an underestimated character in the Marvel universe. Sif is an Asgardian warrior and one of Thor’s companions. She is strong and rightous and can match Thor anytime. She has also been Thor’s lover as well as other Mighty warriors like Beta Ray Bill. At some point in the story she also gets “possessed” by Loki, who takes control of her body to become Lady Loki. I love how after this episode she decides to take a break in order to regain some strength after the psychological battle and struggle to have a tricksy God possessing your body.

How I made my Lady Sif cosplay

I used upholsery leather to build most of my Lady Sif cosplay. For the skirt and the corset, I used the fake leather in dark red and white. I also made some other armour pieces with it over a base of foam. The leather I used was very stiff. It worked perfectly well for the gladiator skirt. However, it was a bit bulky for the corset. I patterned my corset from scratch, it does compress my waist a few centimeters and rise my chest. Unortunately, as the material is so thick it is difficult to notice. The inside is lined and boned.

I used craft foam for the small details of my costume. However, as it would be the most delicate part of the costume, I built the headband using foam and worbla . It stays in place with a thick rubber band and I decorated it with a jewel on the front. I also used high density foam to make the sword. There is a glass fiber dowel inside the sword to help it keep its shape.

Finally, I made the pattern of my cloak as a semicircle. I added white fur on top and used padding to make it look broader and thicker. It attaches to the corset with hooks and eyes

Wearing my Lady Sif cosplay

I had already started making my cosplay when I got a request to appear in a local parade with a Marvel group of cosplayers. I convinced my friend Larxenne to join me as Lady Loki and we spent a great evening having spontaneous fights during the parade. As part of the event we also promoted the comic section of our local library.

Later, I got to wear this cosplay again at a photoshoot on an old Mill with Ian Moore. It was absolutely freezing but the pictures were well worth it.

I had lots of fun creating movement for this cosplay and fighting imaginary creatures and monsters.

In general, my Lady Sif was a cosplay that required skill and the use of difficult materials, but I think I achieved the overall warrior and fierce look. She is indeed one of my comic book favourite characters.
