Inuyasha has been one of those series that I discovered late but which i absolutely adored and fell in love with once I watched it. I wouldn’t say Kikyo is my favourite character, I much prefer Inuyasha himself or my lord Sesshomaru. However, I really liked her outfit and I did have some pieces from previous cosplays that I could easily reuse for my Kikyo cosplay. If you are wondering, I wore some similar clothes for one of my Hana cosplays or my Hinoto Hime.
How I made it
I don’t have photos of the construction of the hakama and the kosode. These are the names for the pleated skirt and jacket traditional miko or shrine maidens wear. I made both garments with twill cotton and I used red ribbon to decorate the sleeves. I also wore the traditional sandals or ghetta.
For this cosplay, I made the quiver with a cardboard tube and some leatherette which I handsew with cord. And the arrows were simply foam attached to wooden rods. And I also made the shikon jewel with beads that I made one by one with foam clay.
Wearing my Kikyo cosplay
When my friend Paul suggested going to the squirrel reservoir to take some pictures I already knew what cosplay I wanted to wear. This place is a forest full of trees and low bushes and it really reminded me of the world of Inuyasha.
We tried new tricks with levitation. let me tell you something. Do not attempt to get on top of a stool, with ghetta sandals on top of an uneven surface when you have vertigo! The photos were totally worth it but I did have to suffer for some time and it was super difficult to stay still!
We managed to get some lovely photos as the sun was setting. It was summer and the weather was just lovely. Also, I was very happy to finally been able to wear this outfit. I really like mikos and Japanese culture in general and kimonos are just super comfy to wear as well.
I hope you liked my Kikyo cosplay. Do you want to support the blog? You can buy me on Ko-fi, there are no subscriptions and you will help me create more cosplays and more tutorials to share with you!
