Karen Heinrich, also known as Kukkii-san, is back with her new Wigs 3D book full of tips and tutorials for cosplayers and creatives that want to learn more about wig styling. Her collection, which also includes Wigs 101 and Wigs2: Level up is a must in any cosplayer bookshelf. As I have already explained all it is to know about Kukkii-san while I reviewed her first book Wigs 101 and even more with the review of Wigs2: Level Up , I will just talk about Wigs 3D today.
Contents of the book
As in previous books. This book will yet again guide you through a varied amount of hairstyling techniques and up-dos that will make your cosplay go into the next level. The topics include:
- How to cut bangs
- How to style curls and spikes
- How to tease your wigs and add volume
- How to plan a style and make your wigs look more natural
All these very detailed tutorials are spread between 92 pages with over 470 photos. Including professional photos taken by photographer bild_er_leben and guest appearances from cosplayers like Calssara or Symphonia among others. When I say this book is detailed I mean it. There is no way you can mess up because it is all covered step by step, even what not to do.
What’s new on Wigs 3D
As opposed to previous books in which the tutorials were more focused on a single style or project, on Wigs 3D, Kukkii-san gives you a great arrange of techniques to achieve a style. Each tutorial is in fact a collection of smaller tutorials and tips that will help you achieve your ultimate goal. No need to spend your money on expensive equipment if you have hot water and your own fingers. Everything goes.
It is the first time Karen releases her books in English first, instead of in German, her original language. Thank goodness, I had to wait impatiently for the previous releases. The language is impecable and very clear and you will have no problems following the book thanks to the visual help.
Final thoughts
Wigs 3D covers any basic or advance techniques you need to master the most common wig styles . Where have you been all my life? Karen has done it again, she has created another great book which is completely relevant for both beginners and advanced cosplayers. A stand alone guide on its own that gets complemented very well with her other two releases. Will there be a 4th book? I can’t wait to find out!
