I actually started building Velvet’s cosplay even before I started playing Tales of Berseria and then I loved her even more. She is a total badass and a very cool character.

Velvet is a human with demon powers. In fact, she is a Therion. She has the power to consume daemons and absorb their souls through her demonic hand. After she loses his beloved little brother very early in the story, she has to stay in prison in a remote island for many years.

How I made Velvet Crowe

I started my cosplay making a coat pattern with a lot of flare at the bottom. Later I modified it a lot to create the complicated pattern on the back and neck of the the cosplay.

Velvet Crowe’s clothes look torn an dirty, that was one of the things that I wanted to recreate in her cosplay. After making all the pieces I made sure I distressed them with scissors, sandpaper and paints.

I made the top with velvet that I had leftover from my Cinder Fall cosplay. After this, I used black cotton for the pants and cloak and fake leather for the patterns of her back. Foam is the material I chose to build the armour pieces. I sprayed the pieces with silver spray paint and finished them with varnish. Also, I distressed all the bandages with tea.

Another thing that took me a long time was the straps. I made all the belts and buckles one by one using fake leather and I created all the details with worbla as well as studs and beads.

This cosplay had so many pieces that you couldn’t believe it. Many were done with foam and a few with worbla. I made the giant monster hand with foam as well. The build took me two full weeks. Once I finished it,  it was totally functional.

Wearing Velvet Crowe Cosplay

I won the first price in Liverpool Anime & Gaming Con wearing this cosplay. Also, it gave me a chance to participate in the UK Cosplay Championship in London a few months afterwards. This was no doubt one of my most difficult builds at the time and I am very proud of it.

I love kimonos, I love Japanese characters and I also love japanese history, so this was just the perfect anime/game for me! This cosplay was actually rather easy to make as I already owned several pieces from previous cosplays.

How I made Yasusada Yamatonokami Cosplay

As I said, I already owned many pieces for this character. I always store all my cosplays and there are some parts that can be interchanged.

My shinsengumi haori (japanese jacket) was from my Sakura Saber cosplay.
I did make the armour chest piece for this character in an afternoon. It is all foam and it is painted with acrylic paints. I also made the pompom using yarn.

Wearing Yasusada

I wore this cosplay with my friend Haru-kun dressed as
Kashuu Kiyomitsu. He really liked the character at the time and I decided to join him when the anime first aired.

Fun Fact 1: although I had the hakama (pants) from another character my friend forgot to bring it to the convention, that’s why you will never see a full picture of this character.

Fun Fact 2: The haori or jacket that I am wearing is from another cosplay. I used the same fabric for 2 more cosplays appart from Yasusada and Saber.

Fun Fact 3: I made a ponytail clip for Haru-kun cosplay, he lost it within 10 minutes of handing it to him, that’s why it doesn’t appear in the photos.

My vampire kindred cosplay took me months to complete! But it was totally worth it. It is stupidly detailed so I won’t be able to go through the whole process but I will give you some insights.

How I made my Vampire Kindred Cosplay

My vampire kindred was a process of months. I was researching and drawing pieces for a long time before I started even cutting anything.

This cosplay was a very complicated build. It had hundreds of little pieces that I built one by one using craft foam and a heater. I didn’t have a heatgun at the time which made it take even longer. It was very time consuming.

The painting process was very long but I really enjoyed it! The trick is on the shadows and highlights, it is what makes your armour pop! I always go for a subtle blending instead of the cartoony look (which is awesome but less realistic)

I am proudest of my giant cross, it is over 1 meter long and I had to scale it down as it was impossible to move around with it otherwise! The frame of the cross I did with cardboard. Later I used wood sticks to reinforce it, and foam and the wood effect is actually a sticker!

Also, I modelled a hell of a lot of details with foam dough. It is light weight and easy to model. It lasted perfectly well attached to the fabric with E6000 glue.

The corset was a bit of a pain as it did have some strange shapes, specially the bust. After several atempts I managed to get it right.

My wings are the only thing I got helped with. My dad drilled the wholes and cut the tubes with the saw. I wrote a full tutorial on how to make collapsable wings.

Also, if you want to see our skit with Larxenne Cosplay as a lycan check the video, we earned best costume in show. It was my first skit and we first practiced it the night before at about 4 in the morning with the cosplays still unfinished.

Fun Fact 1: My friend Larxenne really stabbed me with the sword during the performance. I had a bruise for days.

Fun Fact 2: I never got the chance to take proper pictures with my giant cross. The cross is at my friends Hawk’s photography studio decorating his room.

Fun Fact 3: I had to paint Larxenne with silver paints before the convention. Later, she had to take it off in the bathroom of the event. Everything was shiny afterwards.

The dark eldar are the forsaken and corrupt brothers of the eldar, an ancient and advanced alien race. They are the living embodiments of cruelty. They feast in the pain of others in order to postpone the slow consumption of their souls by the Chaos God Slaanesh.

The wyches are fierce gladiator warriors. They fight in arenas in duels with one another and with other aliens. These battles are almost always to death and wyches are highly proficient and deadly.

As you may know I paint Warhammer 40k and I always love cosplaying a good evil character. One of my first sewn works was Eldar Farseer Idranel but let’s face it, I’m more into evil characters… Even if I own an eldar army the dark eldar are vey seductive.

How I made my Dark Eldar Wych Cosplay

The problem with making a Dark Eldar cosplay is that there are many versions to choose. There are countless of versions and unless you choose a main character you can only cosplay them as a race. I took things from the miniatures and figures and adapted them to create my own evil character. My main reference picture was a fanart by Beckjann as well as my own wych miniatures.

While creating this cosplay, my best allies were the heatgun and the airbrush. They are not irreplaceable but they speed up the process immensely. I painted my armour with boltgun metal (yes, because I use my Warhammer paint to cosplay). Then I highlighted it with mithril silver and added shadows with chaos black. All the transitions were painted with the airbrush and the details with a fine brush. I finished this build after 2 days of non stop work.

I used similar colours as in my armour and added a blood effect with the paint called Blood for the blood god from Citadel. If you want to know the full process check my tutorial how to paint a sword made of foam. I recorded a video and wrote a tutorial for it.

I completed the look with a leather corset and distressed leggins as well as other pieces made with foam and painted with acrylics.

Wearing my Dark Eldar Wych Cosplay

I first wore this cosplay in Gamepolis. My friend Larxenne was wearing a sinister character and I decided to join her with an equally evil rival. I wanted something comfortable to wear yet remarkable. At the time I used a sword I found in a costume store as I run out of time as it is usually the case.

Later on, I decided to wear this cosplay again at Warhammer World for one of their Warhammer conventions. I love sharing my passion with other players and the organisation refunded the tickets I had already bought for promoting them with my cosplay, which is always a nice gesture.

I have improved this costume twice and during the years I have added and changed some pieces. The last time I wore this cosplay was for a photoshoot in Montrose Studios where we found some amazing locations in an abandoned factory.

Changelling and aging my Dark Eldar is now retired, probably consumed by her thirst of blood and finally taken by the Dark Prince.

Synchronicity is a story that takes place in a medieval like period. It tells of twins who were separated shortly after they were born. The brother wants to save the sister, who has been forced to sing for eternity, but my character Luka won’t let him do it so easily.

I am a Vocaloid fangirl. Vocaloid started as a singing synthesiser program but soon gained lots of popularity thanks to their anime style avatars. Many people created stories around these characters and Synchronicity is one of them.

How I made my Megurine Luka Synchronicity Cosplay

For the upper part I modified a base pattern and I also modified a basic skirt to create the right look for the hips. I used a long A-line skirt pattern for the other part of the skirt.

The bolero she wears was more difficult as the original design is a raglan sleeve with a mandarin collar. I Decided to close the jacket at the back to get a clear seam at the front which would be more visible. The jewel is just a painted cabochon.

All the dress was made on satin and when it was complete I finished it adding satin bias tape. I made sure it fitted perfectly well before I added a zipper.

I made the hat with foam and fake leather and I painted the details with acrylic paints in two different tones.

Wearing my Megurine Luka Synchronicity Cosplay

The first time I wore this cosplay was in Cartagena seRemanga.I only have these pictures by AchoVisual. If you notice I was wearing the wrong tights that day. Maybe I should have read my article about the correct underwear to wear for a cosplay

I was extremely happier when I got to wear this cosplay again at a photoshoot with Ian Moore. The design was lovely and I was still pretty proud of my work but I knew I hadn’t made it justice.

I fixed a few parts, wore a much more suitable make up for cosplay and had fun sitting on top of a piano for the photoshoot. Practice makes perfect and sometimes you just need a bit of extra time to get there.

How I made it

Katherine was a very simple build. I used clothes I had at home and modified them for my purposes. I cut a t-shirt and glued little jewels to it with E-6000 glue. For the cincher I made a tube with slightly elastic fabric and adjusted it to my body. Then I used fabric paint to recreate the blue lines.

I made the belt with foam and my trick to get jewels on a budget. These in particular were cabochons and glue dots which are both cheap and easy to find. I also cut a glasses frame and used my own hair with extensions to recreate her looks.

Wearing my Katherine McBride Cosplay

I first wore Katherine to Salon Manga de Barcelona with my friends. Later, we had the chance to do a photoshoot with our friend Hawk. It was actually my first photoshoot in a studio and I really enjoyed myself.

I also took photos with my wonderful Larxenne as Catherine and also with Jose which was our tortured soul. Larxenne and I are best friends and we are so different these characters just represent us very well. You may have noticed that my belt is missing in some pictures. This is because I forgot to wear it the first half an hour of the shoot.

Have you ever played Final Fantasy? I love the game, I started the saga playing VII. After playing many others it is still my favourite game and Tifa my favourite character. No wonder I chose her as my first cosplay!

How I made Tifa Lockhart Cosplay

First I got the t-shirt. Tifa wears a short white tank top. At the time I cut an old t-shirt and handsew the bottom as I didn’t have any sewing machines

Primero hice la camiseta. Tifa lleva una camiseta corta blanca. En aquel momento corté una camiseta vieja y la cosí a mano porque no tenía máquina de coser.

Also, I already owned a black miniskirt and the boots, so I went looking for red gloves and black suspenders.

Además, ya tenía una falda corta negra y las botas, así que fuí a buscar unos guantes rojos y unos tirantes negros.

As a detail I will say that I researched the web looking for pics of her earrings. In the Advent Children film she only wears the LEFT one. It is white and consists of a white pearl and a teardrop.

Como detalle diré que busqué en la web fotos de sus pendientes. En la película Advent Children solo lleva el pendiente IZQUIERDO. Consiste en una perla blanca y otra con forma de lágrima.

Unfortunately I didn’t take lost of pictures of this cosplay, but one of these days I will remake it as she is still one of my favourites.

Vocaloid was such a hit. I remember when everybody used to dress as one of these synthesised voice mascots. I myself was one of he ones who succumbed to the looks of these characters. Luka was my favourite and that is why I decided to make me a Megurine Luka cosplay.

Making my Megurine Luka cosplay

I wasn’t an expert sewing and I had barely done a few cosplays yet. I had just discovered you can use patterns to make cosplays and I found one that suited my purposes. The truth is, I didn’t even know how to read patterns! I ended up messing up with the sizes, the sewing and everything, but nevertheless I managed to finish the top and the dress.

Something else I had no idea about was the existance of something called bias tape, I figured out the borders of the top where supposed to be ribbon, so I literally bought meters of ribbon and ironed it in half in order to attach it to the border. What a disaster! All my ribbon crinkled and warped and looked nothing like the picture, but luckily, it wasn’t so obvious from afar and I got away with it.

However, the one thing that I did well was painting my fabric wih acrylic paints, it is true that fabric paint is much preferred but for little areas acrylic won’t crack so much.

I was most proud of my headphones. First, I cut the shape of my headphones on craft board, leaving a hole on the side and space for a battery, then I attached an LED to the middle, it is very easy to light up an LED as long as it touches the button battery correctly it will work. Finally, I covered the light with a mini CD and I used gold cardboard to cover it all. I didn’t know how to use foam at the time but this was a very succesfull prop.

I wore this cosplay for my first cosplay competition. At the time I was really proud of my work. Don’t get me wrong, it was a ot of effort and the results were very good for my limited knowledge, but of course, I couldn’t compete with people who had been making costumes for years. That never stopped me from entering the competition the next year, and the next and the next until I finally won. The important thing is that I enjoyed wearing the cosplay and I got to improve year after year.

This character was a bit too much for my level when I did it but it was worth the try. I didn’t know how to sew with a sewing machine when I first did it. Initially i sew it all by hand, later on I used the machine to reinforce it.  Also, my materials were very limited but with a lot of imagination it worked.

How I made my Alisa Bosconovitch Cosplay

Another problem I faced when I made this cosplay was the choice of materiales. I didn’t know where to buy fabric for cosplay! So I decided to modify several oversized t-shirts.

Under the skirt I wore a pleated skirt, again, at the time I didn’t know how to make a pleated skirt so I was lucky to find one that did the trick, same with the shirt collar

After I added somo flowers, details and trims my cosplay was completed. I also made a butterfly brooch out of clay and used soe cardboard to make my gloves puff. Of course foam would have been a better idea but I didn’t know it existed at the time.

Wearing my Alisa Bosconovitch Cosplay

I wore this cosplay at Murcia se Remanga, surprisingly, some people recognised me even when I was wearing only the wig. And that wig was terrible. It was a fun cosplay to wear and I would love to remake it sometime.

Fun fact 1: my friend’s dog decided to eat the flowers of my headdress while we were getting ready. They were a little chewed but added personality to the costume

This is yet another of my Megurine Luka cosplays. It completes the collection with my default Luka, Luka synchronicity, and my Magnet version. This is probably one of the characters that I have cosplayed the most, but that is normal as she has lots of versions. This time I decided to make a cosplay to celebrate the Christmas Holidays.

Making my cosplay

I actually bought the dress for this cosplay. It was difficult to resist it as it was already perfect for the character and was only missing the details.

However, I did have to make the hat as it didn’t come with one, making a Santa’s hat was very easy, and just need to add some white fur to my red velvet fabric.

I also had to make a big ribbon and the ear warmers, and I cut a necklace with my cutting machine that said Luka. It lasted very well considering it was just cardboard. Finally I made my Tako luka out of paper and my cosplay was complete.

Of course, I made this cosplay for Christmas. The house was brand new and the walls were bare, just perfect to take a few pictures. I couldn’t do that now as all those walls are full of books. I guess I can’t complain.

Actually, I believe here is where my love for cosplay started to show. It wasn’t enough waiting for a convention to wear a cosplay and I decided to make Luka to celebrate the holidays as well. I took some pictures at home and had fun wearing a Santa dress.
