If you haven’t seen Neon Genesis Evangelion you can’t consider yourself a real otaku. It is a classic among classics! Yup, it has several weird endings but hey! Nobody is perfect! Rei is the quiet type of girl that has a lot to say, so in a way she is a bit like me. It was great to pair with my lovely Larxenne who was my Asuka, the temperamental one.
How I made Rei Ayanami
I started making the uniform modifying a flared skirt and adding the weird top. I added some godets to create those boxed pleats she wears and later I made her shirt with cotton fabric.
This dress may seem easy but believe me when I say it is not! I took my time with this cosplay studying every single detail, because i loved it and because I enjoyed to do so!
I also cut my wig to make it look like Rei as much as I could. She has a very characteristic hairstyle and I had to cut my wig much shorter and in layers to achieve it.
Wearing Rei Ayanami Cosplay
I am lucky enough to have an amazing friend who will join me and cosplay with me. I wore Rei with my friend Larxenne dressed as Asuka Langlay. We went to Winter Freak together and had an amazing time.
Fun fact about this dress. I actually used this fabric for a bunch of cosplays. It started as a very big piece of fabric on a retail for 10€. I made 4 different cosplays out of that piece in total!
