This cosplay was on the make for many years. This was one of the projects that I brought along with me when I moved houses. My Ririchiyo Shirakiin Yokai Cosplay wasn’t a particularly difficult build, however it did have some challenging details on its construction. Ririchiyo only adopts her demon form when she is angry or in danger. It is my favourite of her dresses. I also made her winter uniform and her summer uniform.
How I made it
Most of my cosplay consists on a basic kimono top with a short hakama skirt. It is all in cotton twill which is durable and keeps pleats easily. The butterflies on the scarf are glued with fabric glue and they appear on both sides of it. I carved the horns on plastazote foam which later I burnt with a hot iron to create the creases and I painted it all with acrylic paints.
The most challenging piece was the oni mask. I decided to use a papier mache method to create this one. I got a cheap mask and started building shapes on top using crunched paper and masking tape. When I has happy with the shape I reinforced everything with newspaper and a mixture of water and white glue. After I primed the piece I used a bleach bone colour as a base and added some highlights and details. Finally I added some hair from an old wig and made the teeth with foam clay.
I also made an o-naginata , her weapon, with plastazote foam and a PVC pipe. I painted it with acrylics as well and added some details like tassels. Finally, I also made the armguards, called kote, with cotton fabric too.
Wearing my Ririchiyo Yokai Cosplay
I have never worn this cosplay at a convention. I finished it for a photoshoot at Woolton Hall as she is a very aristocratic and posh character. Not to say yandere. The house is said to be haunted so I thought this costume would be ideal for the place. The photos turned out to be amazing.
