Sometimes I do fall in love with a popular anime, and if a good friend like Larxenne decides to jump in with a cosplay as well it is even better. I’m not so much of a pink person but sometimes something like a Nonon Jakuzure Cosplay from Kill la Kill makes good practice and an interesting change.
How I made my Nonon Jakuzure Cosplay
Nonon may look simple to the untrained eye, but she is actually not. At the time, her majorette outfit was a real challenge and gave me a lot of trouble.
The dress was made with light blue and pink satin and it was done as several vertical pieces as opposed to a bodice and a skirt. I started it with a base pattern which I managed to split on several parts after several tries. It was a real technical challenge but made the dress look all the best. I inserted several godets to the dress and wore it with a petticoat underneath. I made all the other details, including the core of the hat with craft foam.
For my make up I used an anime style sweet look with tinted lips and pink and nude eyeshadows. I used a long pink wig tied on a bun and EOS New Adult Pink contact lenses, but looking back I should have chosen darker lenses to match better the colour of her eyes.
Wearing my Nonon Jakuzure Cosplay
I never had the chance to wear my Nonon Jakuzure cosplay on stage as I had planned, but it never stopped me nor my friends from having fun. I got to wear it first with my friend Larxenne as Ryuko in her battle uniform and again in Barcelona with my friend Yumi Asakura as Ryuko in her school uniform. However we had no times for shoots those times.
Some years later I decided to wear it again for a photoshoot at Woolton Hall where I enjoyed playing with the batton. I didn’t do so well but the photos were amazing! I love these photos by Phil Palin.
