Devil Sakizou Cosplay

I wanted to experiment with new things. During the years I have done many armours and dresses, but this Devil Sakizou Cosplay gave me the chance to make something different, burlesque style, with lots of silly details and shiny things.

I actually started my New Year resolutions for cosplayers quite early and I decided to use several fabrics that I had been collecting through the years. If you haven’t started organising your fabric stash yet, I recommend you to do so now, it is really satisfying.

How I made my Devil Sakizou Cosplay

Of course I started my cosplay choosing a pattern. I chose a corset pattern by Simplicity as I had bought it half price on sales and hadn’t had the chance to test it yet. I was expecting a proper hugging corset but I was slightly disappointed. Even if it was a bit loose it still worked well.

As I said, it was the first time I sew this pattern. What could go wrong? Well, there are so many pieces, and numbers, and styles that I messed up and forgot to cut one of the pieces. I was able to fix it adding a contrasting pink brocade to my burgundy velvet base, but I did panic for a bit.

Of course, one of the characteristics of a Sakizou cosplay is the details. I spent many hours sewing trims, ruffles and jewellery to my cosplay.

The skirt was very easy to make. I wrote a full tutorial on how to make a burlesque bustle skirt and guess what, you can actually download the pattern here!

Finally, I made the rest of the details mainly with foam. I made some horns, a crown and bat wings and everything was ready to scare everyone. You can download the pattern for the foam wings here for free.

Wearing my Devil Sakizou Cosplay

Halloween was the perfect excuse for this cosplay. As Woolton Hall is one of my favourite locations I decided to wear it there for a photoshoot. The place is so Spooky! Actually, it is supposed to be haunted.

Fun Fact 1: I started this cosplay when I messed up a wig. I curled it so much I looked like Marie Antoniette. That gave me the idea to make a Sakizou.

Fun Fact 2: My skull was called Willy. It has been on top of my mantlepiece for months. He is part of the family now.
